Hi Frugalistas! I’m always on the lookout for the perfect frugal, but still first class hotel. You know the sort of hotel I mean – in an unbeatable central location, with local charm, a little luxury, and I definitely want it at a good price. In expensive cities like London, it’s not so hard to find luxury and charm, but it can be hard to find good quality London hotels at a winning price. But thanks to my friends at Luxury Escapes, I’ve found the perfect combination of location, luxury, charm and price at the Eccleston Square Hotel in Westminster. Update: this Luxury Escapes offer is now closed.
About the Eccleston Square Hotel London
The Eccleston Square Hotel occupies a classic Regency Grade II listed building on the border of Belgravia, Westminster and Victoria. You will be in good company when you stay at the Eccleston Square Hotel – Winston Churchill used to live two doors down, and Queen Victoria’s granddaughter once lived in what is now the Eccleston Square Hotel. Apparently Queen Victoria used to have afternoon tea with her granddaughter there.
The Hotel overlooks a private garden square just to add to your first class London experience and being an adult’s only hotel you know you can be assured of a tranquil stay.
Arrival at the Eccleston Square Hotel London
Whether you are flying into Gatwick or Heathrow airports the Eccleston Square Hotel is easy to get to without breaking the budget.
From Gatwick, the Gatwick Express will whisk you to Victoria Station for about £18 one way, or £32 return. Victoria Station is then an easy 7 minute walk to the hotel.
From Heathrow Airport you have options:
the Heathrow Express to Paddington will have you in Central London in a mere 15minutes. From Paddington hop on the Circle Line for a direct train to Victoria tube station and a few minutes walk to the hotel (Heathrow Express costs about £20 one way, but it is cheaper if you book a return ticket and book in advance on line);
if you are on a strict budget you can take the tube from Heathrow (Piccadilly Line to South Kensington, then District Line to Victoria);
or for a special treat the Eccleston staff will book you a private taxi transfer.
What to look forward to at the Eccleston Square London
Although it is located in a traditional English building in a traditional English location your stay at the Eccleston Square Hotel is a modern triumph. Rooms feature contemporary, but still very classic furnishings – including Hästen’s beds (reputedly the best in the world) in every room.
Fine tune your room lighting, curtains, sound system and the 46inch flat screen television with your iPad control system. The high tech luxury continues in the marble bathroom with a hidden TV in the bathroom mirror, massage showers and a ‘smart glass’ wall that turns opaque at the touch of a button for that extra privacy.
As well as a well stocked minibar, rooms include Nespresso machines with complimentary capsules, and complimentary Evian water during your stay. And the complimentary services don’t end there – make that restaurant booking with free phone calls to London landline numbers. When you want to go out (and I know you will find it hard to leave) your complimentary smartphone “Handy” offers you free local calls, unlimited mobile internet as well as international calls to selected countries.
But the team at the Eccleston Square Hotel know you can’t live on Nespresso and Evian alone. In addition to breakfast and bar snacks, the Hotel serves what they call an Afternoon Tea “à la Parisienne” every Saturday and Sunday. Featuring sandwiches, cakes, French patisseries and scones, I know what I’d be doing on a weekend stay at the Eccleston Square Hotel!
Tourist attractions near the Eccleston Square Hotel
When you can take yourself away from the charms of your room at the Eccleston Square Hotel, you won’t have to go far to see all the things you’ve come to London to see. You are also not far from Fortnum and Mason to pick up some sweet treats to enjoy with your free Nespresso.

Thanks to Luxury Escapes for introducing me to the Eccleston Square Hotel. I was compensated for this post, however, you know I don’t recommend anywhere I wouldn’t stay or use myself, and that my opinions are always my own.
