Hi Frugalistas! So many bloggers are posting their most popular Instagram photos of 2015. But I’m taking a slightly different view. Rather than my most popular Instagram photos, I’m focussing on my personal favorite photos. Why? Well, Instagram changed their algorithm during the year, so newer photos tend not to get the same level of engagement – popularity is therefore somewhat skewed. For me, this is a post that also allows me to share some of my moments of 2015 that didn’t make the blog. We travel a lot during the year, but I’m quite selective about what I write about. My favorite Instagram photos take you on a tour around the world – including some of my favorite moments close to home.
Phuket on Instagram January 2015
In January we took a family trip to Phuket. With its incredible sunsets, I was spoilt for choice in what to pick as my favorites.
Canada on Instagram April-May 2015
My first trip to Canada was an absolute revelation. Far more beautiful than I could ever imagine. Far more friendly than I could ever imagine. And fabulous food as well.
Starting in Vancouver for work, my time to explore was limited, but I still found some treasures!
I was fortunate to spend a few days with my dear friends Vanessa and Ryan from Turnipseed Travel in Ottawa. Having my own private guides was a brilliant experience. We managed to pack so much into a short period of time – so much so that it is almost impossible to choose a highlight!
While I’m not the “outdoors” type, we did explore some wilderness just outside Ottawa……..
In Montreal and Quebec City I got up close with the Quebecois culture. If you read my Quebec posts, you’ll know I discovered a unique culture, that was sort of French, but not really. Don’t look for France in Quebec – look for Quebec!
Port Douglas on Instagram September 2015
Miss G and I took our annual mother daughter trip to Port Douglas in Far North Queensland in September. We’d visited P Dougs (as MissG refers to it) in 2014, but staying in an apartment gave us the opportunity to explore the town in a whole different way.
Paris on Instagram October 2015
I haven’t finished writing all my posts from my most recent trip to Paris, but my Instagram followers have had a bit of a peek already………
Photos close to home
I do take photos for Instagram when I’m out and about at home. Surprisingly, they are sometimes my most popular photos…..
I decided to do a Sydney advent calendar on Instagram, featuring a Christmas themed photo every day in December. I knew I had to have a photo of the Queen Victoria Building Christmas tree, it’s always the most beautiful………..
And for my final shot, my April Fools Instagram photo. I was coerced into submitting a photo for an April Fools Day post on embarrassing Travel Blogger photos. Long before I was the Chief Frugalista, shamefully, yes, I did wear that T shirt, and yes, I did do the cheesy Leaning Tower of Pisa shot…… Just as well it’s such a terrible quality photo that you can’t see it properly…….
My year on Instagram was fun. And these are just some of the highlights. What are your favorites? Why don’t you join me and follow along in 2016?
