Hi Frugalistas! I’ve written at some length about the Cinque Terre. It’s one of my favourite parts of Italy. Based on your feedback and the enduring popularity of my posts, it seems you do too. The Cinque Terre is world renowned for its hiking. Despite a number of the trails still being closed since storms in 2012, the Cinque Terre is a wonderful place to hike. If you are like me and don’t hike, you can still enjoy walking the Cinque Terre – I’ve featured three great walks for non-hikers in a previous post in fact.
Today I’m delighted to feature one of those walks in more detail – the (downhill) walk from San Bernardino to Vernazza. There is a little bus that runs from Vernazza up the hill (it’s only about 3km, or 2miles, but it is all uphill). It doesn’t always run. Sometimes it runs only if you ask the bus driver nicely (as happened to me). But if you do the opportunity to get up to San Bernardino, do walk back, and see what all the hikers are seeing. All downhill, on a road. Hiking boots are not necessary, but a sensible rubber soled shoe is advisable.
What’s your favourite walk in the Cinque Terre? I’d love you to share!
